Event First Aid Services

We provide event first aid services for local and state-level community events and sporting events. We specialise in events with a high number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and LGBTIQA+SB people.

We focus on a holistic health care model—supporting the physical, psychological, and social impacts of a medical incident or injury. Using this model, we pride ourselves on empowering our patients to be part of the care plan post-incident/injury.

We hold an Intermediate First Aid Licence with the Victorian Department of Health, providing a high level of pre-hospital care for your next event.

Why choose Deadly Sports Plus Aboriginal Corporation?

We are 1 of 2 licenced event first aid service providers that are non-profits, yet we are the only one focused on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, LGBTIQA+SB people, disabled people, and people from disadvantaged backgrounds. Not only will you be booking highly trained and experienced first aiders through DS+, you’ll be making a difference in the lives of diverse communities around Victoria.

From 1 October 2021, all commercial first aid providers in Victoria require a licence under the Non-Emergency Patient Transport and First Aid Services Act 2003. We hold an Intermediate First Aid Services Licence with the Department of Health, which is valid until December 2024. The licencing of first aid services provides minimum standards in the provision of first aid across public events. You can check the First Aid Services website to see all providers who hold a licence.

DS+ Difference

  • High levels of staff training

All our staff come with a passion for care. They undertake 30 hours of training before jumping in, with the addition of concussion management, taping, musculoskeletal assessments, and other sports trainer skills.

From Provide First Aid to Advanced First Aid + staff’s own university training, your attendees are in the best hands.

  • Equipment that meets needs

We undertake risk assessments for every event, taking into account the event and common injuries to best build a unique set of kits and equipment per event.

At a minimum, our team will always have a trauma kit, medication kit, oxygen kit, and AED + a patient chair.

  • Culturally safe care

As an Aboriginal Community-Controlled Organisation, we embed culturally safe care principles including the Holistic Social and Emotional Wellbeing Framework.

We aim to provide staffing that reflects the diverse backgrounds (or strong allies) of the attendees. I.e. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff for Indigenous community events.

  • Staff WANT to be there

As a social enterprise, we ensure we pay above-standard industry wages and offer great benefits to our staff including transport allowances. We also provide free internal training or pay for external training for our staff. This is all to ensure they have no barriers so that they can provide the best care to all attendees of your event.

We all work at DS+ to give back to our community!

Benefits of two-person crew

  • For Attendees

First aid post is always staffed (except for major traumatic incidents)

We do not need to ask or rely on attendees to assist, reducing the risk of bystander trauma.

We can provide crowd control and assist bystanders to keep the area safe while treatment is still being done.

  • For Event Organisers and Staff

Dedicated Team Leader to coordinate incident responses.

We call 000 ourselves to ensure accurate and up-to-date information is communicated effectively.

DS+ staff meal and rest breaks do not impact the event.

  • For DS+ Staff

Two heads are better than one to ensure a treatment plan is best for the patient.

Medication requires a two-person check before providing it to patients.

CPR and multi-casualty incidents (>1 patient) require at least two people to respond to best perform treatment and required equipment.

What is the minimum number staff you supply?

Each event has different requirements. Per our licensing requirements, we run a risk assessment per event, which will determine the number of staff and particular equipment we will supply.

Following our holistic healthcare approach, we supply a minimum of 2 staff per event. Just like other pre-hospital care, we find the benefits of a 2 person crew highly beneficial for the event, as well as the wellbeing of staff.

What are the minimum qualifications of staff provided?

All events will be provided with two staff, with at least one being a First Responder Level 2 or greater.
